It is about "change". A lot of times people fight change, but it is going to happen anyway. Technology, equal rights, etc change over the years and will continue to change.

I think the meaning of this song , or rather the fire is 'change socially' to answer some people wondering about the nature of the fire. We can see the changes that happened for better of for worse in this video, these incude the rise of Feminism, the drug industry, hippies and tecnology. I cannot see how this song could not make sense to anyone. ^_^
